About me
Shani is an experienced EMS educator dedicated to elevating prehospital care through
evidence-based practice, clear communication, and high-impact training. With background
spanning frontline EMS operations, curriculum development, and clinical coordination, Shani
specializes in transforming complex medical and behavioral concepts into practical, engaging
education for providers at every level. Shani has been working in EMS since 2016 in volunteer
and paid positions. Shani teaches Initial EMT and continuing education at all levels and will be
expanding her instructional work to the Advanced EMT and Paramedic levels at Echo Hose Training
Center. Shani has been selected as a 2025–2026 Scholar of the Patricia A. Tiegen Teaching
Academy. Her scholarly project focuses on researching and developing educational programs and
assessment tools designed to bridge the gap between classroom certification and real-world field
competence—an area of growing importance in EMS education. Shani holds a Master’s Degree
in Healthcare Administration (Western Connecticut State University 1995), Bachelor of Science
Degrees in Exercise Physiology and Market (University of Wyoming1991). Shani holds CT and WY
Paramedic Licenses (2024), CT Emergency Medical Instructor Certificate (2019), and CT State Skill
Examiner (2020)
Originally from rural Wyoming, Shani grew up in a small town where her family owned an
electrical contracting business. Prior to her work in Pre-hospital Emergency Medicine, Shani
worked in Healthcare Finance. During her free time Shani enjoys spending time with family,
especially her 2 grown children, Henry and Johanna, and friends, crafting, and working on her
antique house with her husband, John
