About me
Dr. Akash Shah is a dedicated physician informaticist with a unique blend of clinical and technical expertise, driven by a passion for improving healthcare through innovation and education. With a strong foundation in both medicine and information technology, Dr. Shah brings a holistic approach to the evolving landscape of healthcare systems. He earned his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine Residency at the Danbury Hospital–Yale Affiliated Internal Medicine Residency Program in 2021. Building on his commitment to healthcare leadership, he pursued and obtained an MBA in Healthcare Administration from Long Island University in 2024, as part of the Nuvance-LIU MBA partnership.
In his current role as a physician informaticist, Dr. Shah works at the intersection of clinical practice and digital health solutions. He plays a vital role in analyzing and evaluating existing and emerging technologies to ensure alignment with clinical workflows and patient care goals. His responsibilities include providing informatics support to governance teams and committees, supporting IT application enhancements, and contributing to clinician training to optimize system utilization. Dr. Shah also serves as Co-Chair of the NHMP Hypertension Management Committee, where he applies data-driven strategies to improve chronic disease outcomes across the health system.
With a strong desire to support the next generation of healthcare professionals, Dr. Shah has actively pursued opportunities in medical education. He serves as a teaching attending for medical students through the University of Vermont and works closely with Danbury Hospital internal medicine residents, sharing his expertise in both clinical care and informatics. In January 2024, he launched a Clinical Informatics Rotation for residents and learners across the Nuvance Health network. This innovative curriculum offers hands-on exposure to the integration of informatics in clinical environments, with several residents having already completed the program.
Through the support of the Patricia A. Tietjen, MD Teaching Academy, Dr. Shah is working to expand this rotation system-wide, using forward-thinking teaching methods that equip learners with essential skills in digital health, system optimization, and clinical leadership. His work reflects a deep commitment to advancing the future of healthcare through collaboration, education, and continuous improvement.
